WORLD LANGUAGES

SPANISH 1
The Spanish 1 course concentrates on the primary linguistic skills, understanding and intelligible control of basic sound patterns, comprehension and manipulation of selected structural patterns, recognition of the same patterns and vocabulary when written. Special focus is placed on the ability to read controlled new material and write intelligible short communications within the limits of the structures and vocabulary learned. In addition to the language skills, basic traditions and customs of the Hispanic world are introduced. Both oral and written objective-type examinations are given.

SPANISH 2
Spanish 2 begins with a comprehensive review of the grammar and vocabulary of the Spanish 1 course and continues to stress the primary linguistic skills of Spanish 1 while introducing increasingly more complex structural patterns. This course will then connect with other disciplines such as: English Language Arts, Health, Mathematics, Science and Technology, and Social Studies. Spanish 2 also identifies careers in which knowing more than one language is useful.

ACADEMIC SUPPORT COURSES

TITLE I MATH AND ENGLISH
Students who are identified as in need of remediation may be enrolled in Title I English or Title I Mathematics elective courses in addition to their regularly scheduled English or Mathematics courses. Students are identified based on a multi-criteria selection form including the following: standardized test scores that are two years below grade level, teacher/guidance recommendation, MCAS performance scores that are below the proficient level, and subgroup indicators. Title I courses focus on basic skills, remediation and provide supplemental services to students to enhance their abilities through instruction and a comprehensive review of material in anticipation of bridging the existing learning gaps.
